What are the minor signs of the Hour (Day of Judgment)?

Islamic teaching distinguishes between minor signs (ashrat as-sa'ah as-sughra) and major signs of the Hour. Minor signs are numerous gradual social, moral, and historical changes described in hadith as occurring over a long stretch of time leading up to the Hour, many of which Muslims believe have already begun or occurred. Examples mentioned in hadith include the spread of widespread ignorance of religious knowledge, time seeming to pass more quickly, an increase in bloodshed and open immorality, wealth becoming abundant and widespread, it becoming normal for the unqualified to be given prominence and authority, barefoot and destitute shepherds competing in constructing tall buildings, and a general weakening of honesty and trustworthiness in society. Unlike the major signs—such as the appearance of the Dajjal (False Messiah) and the return of Isa (Jesus)—which occur close together near the very end and mark the imminent Hour, minor signs are understood as gradual indicators woven into the long course of history, serving as reminders for believers to stay spiritually prepared rather than as a precise countdown or timetable.
