Q&A · Hajj

What is the reward of an accepted Hajj (Hajj Mabrur)?

The Prophet ﷺ said plainly: "The reward for Hajj Mabrur [an accepted Hajj] is nothing but Paradise" (Sahih al-Bukhari 1773). In another narration he said that whoever performs Hajj for Allah's sake, avoiding obscene speech and sin throughout, "returns as free of sin as the day his mother bore him" (Sahih al-Bukhari 1521) — an extraordinary description of the spiritual reset Hajj can offer.

"Mabrur" is generally understood by scholars to describe a Hajj performed with sincere intention, funded by lawful earnings, carried out in careful accordance with the Prophet's ﷺ example, and marked by good conduct — patience with fellow pilgrims, avoidance of arguing or sin, and generosity along the way. Its truest sign, many scholars note, is not anything visible during the rites themselves but what follows: a pilgrim who returns home more humble, more regular in prayer, kinder in speech, and less attached to worldly excess than before. Since acceptance is known only to Allah, a pilgrim is encouraged to strive for every outward condition of a Mabrur Hajj while leaving the matter of its acceptance entirely to Him.
