Sulayman (Solomon)

Prophet and king granted a unique kingdom over jinn, wind, and speech of creatures
Ancient Israel

Sulayman (peace be upon him), the son of Dawud, inherited prophethood and kingship, and Allah taught him the speech of the birds and granted him from every kind of favour (27:16). He prayed for a kingdom that would belong to no one after him, and Allah granted it, subjecting to him the wind and the jinn who built and dived for him (38:35-38, 21:81-82).

As his forces of jinn, men, and birds marched, they passed a valley of ants, and an ant warned the others to enter their dwellings lest Sulayman's army crush them unknowingly. Sulayman smiled at her words and thanked Allah for His favour, praying to be grateful and righteous (27:17-19).

He reviewed the birds and, missing the hoopoe, learned from it of the kingdom of Sheba (Saba), ruled by a queen whose people worshipped the sun instead of Allah (27:20-24). Sulayman sent a letter inviting her to submit to Allah (27:28-31). The queen tested him with a gift, which he refused, and then a throne was brought to him in the blink of an eye by one who had knowledge of the Scripture (27:35-40).

When the Queen of Sheba came and saw the marvels of his court, including a smooth glass floor she mistook for water, she recognised the truth and declared, "My Lord, I have wronged myself, and I submit with Sulayman to Allah, the Lord of the worlds" (27:44). Despite his vast power, Sulayman remained a humble, grateful servant, and Allah praises him as an excellent servant, ever turning back to Him (38:30).
