The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
Idha kana junhul-layli aw amsaytum fakuffu sibyanakum, fa innash-shayatina tantashiru hina'idh, fa idha dhahaba sa'atun minal-layli fahulluhum, fa aghliqul-abwaba wadhkurusmallah, fa innash-shaytana la yaftahu baban mughlaqa, wa awku qirabakum wadhkurusmallah, wakhammiru aniyatakum wadhkurusmallah, walaw an ta'rudu 'alayha shay'a, wa atfi'u masabihakum
When night falls — or when evening comes — keep your children in, for the devils spread out at that time. When an hour of the night has passed, let them go. Close the doors and mention the name of Allah, for Satan does not open a closed door. Tie up your waterskins and mention the name of Allah, and cover your vessels and mention the name of Allah, even if only by laying something across them; and put out your lamps.
