When you intend a matter, pray two rakʿahs other than the obligatory prayer, then say:
Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi'ilmik, wa astaqdiruka biqudratik, wa as'aluka min fadlikal-'azim, fa innaka taqdiru wala aqdir, wata'lamu wala a'lam, wa anta 'allamul-ghuyub, Allahumma in kunta ta'lamu anna hadhal-amra khayrun li fi dini wama'ashi wa'aqibati amri ('ajili amri wa ajilih) faqdurhu li wayassirhu li thumma barik li fih, wa in kunta ta'lamu anna hadhal-amra sharrun li fi dini wama'ashi wa'aqibati amri ('ajili amri wa ajilih) fasrifhu 'anni wasrifni 'anhu, waqdur liyal-khayra haythu kana thumma ardini bih
O Allah, I seek Your guidance through Your knowledge, I seek ability through Your power, and I ask You of Your immense bounty; for You are able and I am not, You know and I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter is good for me in my religion, my livelihood and the outcome of my affairs (my affairs now and later), then decree it for me, make it easy for me, and then bless me in it. And if You know that this matter is bad for me in my religion, my livelihood and the outcome of my affairs (my affairs now and later), then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, decree for me the good wherever it may be, and then make me content with it.
Name the matter where it says “this matter”. The words in brackets may be said in place of the words before them, or both may be said together, which is best. Allah says: “…and consult them in the matter; then, once you have resolved, put your trust in Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who put their trust in Him.” (Āl ʿImrān 3:159)
