O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, keep him safe and pardon him; honour his reception and widen his place of entry; wash him with water, snow and hail, and cleanse him of sins as You cleanse a white garment of dirt; give him in exchange a home better than his home, a family better than his family and a spouse better than his spouse; admit him to Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave [and the punishment] of the Fire.

Allahummaghfir lihayyina wamayyitina, washahidina wagha'ibina, wasaghirina wakabirina, wadhakarina wa unthana. Allahumma man ahyaytahu minna fa ahyihi 'alal-Islam, waman tawaffaytahu minna fatawaffahu 'alal-iman. Allahumma la tahrimna ajrah, wala tudillana ba'dah

O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those of us present and those absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allah, whomever of us You keep alive, keep him alive upon Islam, and whomever of us You take in death, take him upon faith. O Allah, do not deprive us of his reward, and do not let us go astray after him.

Allahumma inna fulana bna fulanin fi dhimmatik, wahabli jiwarik, faqihi min fitnatil-qabri wa'adhabin-nar, wa anta ahlul-wafa'i wal-haqq, faghfir lahu warhamhu, innaka antal-ghafurur-rahim

O Allah, so-and-so son of so-and-so is in Your care and under the bond of Your protection, so guard him from the trial of the grave and the punishment of the Fire. You are the One who keeps faith and the One of truth; so forgive him and have mercy on him. Truly You are the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

159

Allahumma 'abduka wabnu amatikahtaja ila rahmatik, wa anta ghaniyyun 'an 'adhabih, in kana muhsinan fazid fi hasanatih, wa in kana musi'an fatajawaz 'anhu

O Allah, Your servant, the son of Your maidservant, is in need of Your mercy, and You have no need to punish him. If he did good, increase his good deeds; and if he did wrong, pass over his wrongdoing.
