The Quran was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ over about 23 years, memorised by the companions and written down under his supervision, then gathered into a single authoritative text during the caliphates of Abu Bakr and Uthman. It has been transmitted by mass memorisation and writing ever since, unchanged.
