Allah commands: "O you who believe, if a disobedient person brings you news, verify it, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become regretful over what you have done" (Quran 49:6), and He forbids pursuing that of which you have no knowledge, since hearing, sight and heart will all be questioned (Quran 17:36). The Prophet ﷺ said, "It is enough falsehood for a man that he narrates everything he hears" (Sunan Abi Dawud 4992; Muslim also cites it in the introduction to his Ṣaḥīḥ). Forwarding an unverified claim, screenshot or "fatwa" is therefore blameworthy even though you did not invent it, and it becomes far graver when it defames a Muslim, spreads panic, or attributes a ruling to Allah without knowledge. The method of the Salaf in ḥadīth — check who said it and how it reached you before you pass it on — applies directly to group chats and social feeds today.
