Which animals are forbidden to eat besides pork?

Allah lists in Sūrat al-Māʾidah: carrion, flowing blood, swine, what is slaughtered for other than Allah, and the strangled, beaten, fallen, gored, and partly-eaten animal unless you slaughter it properly (Qurʾān 5:3). The Prophet ﷺ also prohibited every fanged beast of prey (lion, tiger, wolf, dog) and every bird with talons (eagle, hawk, vulture) — Ibn ʿAbbās reported that he forbade both (Muslim 1934) — and ʿAlī reported that he forbade the meat of domestic donkeys on the day of Khaybar (Muslim 1407). Beyond these categories the default is permissibility, since Allah says He has made lawful the good things and forbidden the impure (Qurʾān 7:157). There is legitimate ikhtilāf on a few items: the majority permit horse meat on the basis of Asmāʾ bint Abī Bakr's report, "We slaughtered a horse in the time of the Prophet ﷺ and ate it" (al-Bukhārī 5510), while Abū Ḥanīfah held it to be disliked.
