Check a hadith
Somebody forwarded you a saying of the Prophet ﷺ and you are not sure it is real. Send it here. We will tell you whether it appears in the collections this site hosts, what grade it carries where a grading exists, and where the wording actually comes from — or that we could not find it, which is a different answer and an honest one.
How it works
Search first
Most forwarded hadith are in the books. The site’s own search covers Bukhari, Muslim and the four Sunan — try a distinctive phrase before you write to anyone.
Send what you have
Paste the wording exactly as you received it, in English or Arabic. Tell us where you saw it if you can. Nothing else is required — not your name, not an email.
The answer is published
Every check is answered in the Q&A, with the citation and grade so you can check it yourself. Leave an email or a number and we will tell you when it is up.
Try the search before you send
A distinctive phrase — four or five unusual words from the middle of the narration — finds it faster than the whole text. If it is in Bukhari, Muslim or the four Sunan, you will have your answer in seconds and will not need to wait for anybody.
What a nil result means, and what it does not. This site hosts Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim and the four Sunan. That is a large library and nowhere near all of it — the Musnad of Ahmad, the Muwatta’, al-Bayhaqi, at-Tabarani and much else are not here. So a hadith that does not turn up in our search is not found, which is not the same claim as fabricated. Where we can trace a wording to a collection this site does not host, we will say which one and what the scholars said of it. Where we cannot trace it at all, we will say that too, in those words.
This is a lookup, not a fatwa. Telling you where a narration comes from and how it was graded is a question of record. What it means for your situation is a question for a scholar who knows your circumstances, and we will not pretend otherwise.
