Tattooing, plucking the eyebrows, and joining false hair are forbidden and were cursed by the Prophet (ﷺ) as altering the creation of Allah. Ibn Masʿūd reported, "Allah has cursed the women who do tattoos and those who have them done, those who pluck their eyebrows, and those who file their teeth for beauty, altering the creation of Allah" (al-Bukhārī, Muslim). Likewise he cursed "the one who joins hair and the one who asks for it to be joined" (Muslim). Scholars permit removing hair outside these categories — such as the moustache-line or hair that is a defect — and a wife beautifying herself for her husband within what is lawful, but reshaping the eyebrows and permanent tattoos remain prohibited.
