Q&A · Death & Afterlife

What is the first thing a person will be held accountable for on the Day of Judgment?

Regarding the servant's own acts of worship, the first deed he will be brought to account for is the prayer (ṣalāh); if it is sound the rest of his deeds are sound, and if it is corrupt the rest are corrupt. As for the rights owed between people, the first matter judged among mankind will concern bloodshed. So a Muslim guards his five daily prayers above all else, and is scrupulously careful never to wrong others, especially in their lives and blood.
