Q&A · Repentance & Sin

Once I sincerely repent, is the sin completely erased as if I never did it?

Yes. The Prophet ﷺ said, "The one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin." When tawbah meets its conditions — sincere regret, ceasing the sin, and firm resolve never to return — Allah wipes the sin out entirely, and He may even replace evil deeds with good ones. So a forgiven sin should not be a cause of ongoing despair, though humility and continued reliance on Allah remain.
