Q&A · Health & Halal Food

If I buy meat and do not know whether Allah's name was mentioned at slaughter, may I eat it?

Yes. When some people told the Prophet ﷺ that meat was brought to them and they did not know whether Allah's name had been mentioned over it, he said, 'Mention the name of Allah over it and eat.' ʿĀʾishah noted that these were people new to Islam, and the guidance shows we assume the good and are not obligated to investigate what is hidden from us. So one says Bismillāh and eats meat obtained from Muslims or the People of the Book without needing to interrogate its history.
