How many prophets are mentioned by name in the Quran, and who are they?

Twenty-five prophets are named in the Quran: Adam, Idris, Nuh, Hud, Salih, Ibrahim, Lut, Isma'il, Ishaq, Ya'qub, Yusuf, Shu'ayb, Ayyub, Dhu'l-Kifl, Musa, Harun, Dawud, Sulayman, Ilyas, al-Yasa', Yunus, Zakariyya, Yahya, 'Isa, and Muhammad (peace be upon them all). Eighteen of them are listed together in a single passage of Surah al-An'am (Quran 6:83-86), and others appear elsewhere, as in Surah an-Nisa' (Quran 4:163). A few further names in the Quran — such as Dhu'l-Qarnayn, 'Uzayr and Luqman — are mentioned with praise, but their prophethood is not established, so they are not counted. Allah also makes clear that the named ones are not all the prophets sent: "And [We sent] messengers about whom We have related to you before, and messengers about whom We have not related to you" (Quran 4:164; similarly Quran 40:78). So we affirm belief in all of them without fixing a total that the authentic texts do not establish. And Muhammad (ﷺ) is the seal of the prophets, after whom there is no prophet (Quran 33:40).
