The Prophet ﷺ said that Jibrīl kept urging kindness to the neighbor so persistently that he thought neighbors would be made heirs, showing how weighty this right is. A believer must not harm his neighbor, and true faith is negated for the one whose neighbor is not safe from his evil. This right extends to the near neighbor, the distant neighbor, and applies whether the neighbor is Muslim or non-Muslim, encompassing both refraining from harm and actively doing good such as sharing food and checking on their welfare.
