Is it forbidden for men to let their garment hang below the ankles (isbāl)?

Yes, it is impermissible for a man to let his lower garment, trousers or robe hang below the ankles; the Prophet ﷺ said, "Whatever of the lower garment is below the ankles is in the Fire." When it is done out of arrogance the sin is graver, for he ﷺ also said, "Allah will not look, on the Day of Resurrection, at the one who trails his garment out of pride." When Abū Bakr said his garment slipped down unless he constantly attended to it, the Prophet ﷺ told him he was not among those who do it out of arrogance, which shows deliberate isbāl is blameworthy in every case but a settled major sin when combined with pride. This ruling is specific to men; women are commanded to lengthen their garments to cover the feet.
