Q&A · Hajj

What is the Talbiyah, and how should it be recited during Hajj and Umrah?

The Talbiyah is the pilgrim's response to Allah's call, recited upon entering ihram and repeated throughout: 'Labbayka Allahumma labbayk, labbayka la sharika laka labbayk, inna al-hamda wa'n-ni'mata laka wa'l-mulk, la sharika lak' (Here I am, O Allah, here I am; here I am, You have no partner, here I am; truly all praise, favor, and dominion belong to You; You have no partner). This is the exact wording narrated from the Prophet by Ibn Umar, and it is Sunnah to persist upon it without addition. Men are instructed to raise their voices with the Talbiyah while women keep theirs low, and it is continued until one begins the tawaf of Umrah, or in Hajj until the stoning of Jamrat al-Aqabah on the Day of Nahr.
