Ahl al-Sunnah wa'l-Jama'ah affirm that Allah is above His creation, established over His Throne (istiwa') in a manner that befits His majesty, without likening Him to creation and without asking 'how.' This is affirmed in His words, 'The Most Merciful, over the Throne He rose,' and 'Do you feel secure that He who is above the heaven will not cause the earth to swallow you?' When the Prophet ﷺ asked a slave girl 'Where is Allah?' she replied 'Above the heaven,' and he declared her a believer and ordered her freedom. Affirming Allah's highness (uluww) does not mean He is contained by place, for He encompasses all things while nothing encompasses Him.
