Recitation & memorisation trainer

Memorising is four things in a loop: hearing it correctly, saying it back, being unable to see it, and coming back tomorrow. This page is those four and nothing else. The text is the Uthmani mushaf; the voice is Mishary Alafasy, one file per ayah, served from this site.

What the voice check can and cannot do. It compares the words a browser's speech recogniser thought it heard against the words that are written. That catches a skipped or swapped word. It cannot judge tajwīd — makhārij, madd lengths, ghunnah and qalqalah are simply not in a word transcript, and no amount of software here changes that. The recogniser is also trained on everyday Arabic, not on Qur'anic recitation, so it misreads correct recitation often. This page will therefore never tell you that you recited wrongly — it shows you what it heard and leaves the judgement to you. For tajwīd there is no substitute for a teacher who listens to you.

The passage

Listen and repeat

3× 1.2s 1.00×

Each ayah plays the set number of times, then moves on. Slowing it down is how the tongue catches the vowels; the ear should lead the eye, so let this run before you try to read along. Every play counts as a repetition against that ayah.

Fade the words off the page

The same words hide each time you return to an ayah, so you are climbing one ladder rather than a different one every visit. Tap any blank to peek — a peek costs nothing but tells you where the gap really is. Recite aloud at every rung; reading silently teaches the eye, not the tongue.

Recite, and see what was heard

Press the circle and recite the highlighted ayah.

Before you press it: in Chrome, speech recognition is not done on your device — the browser streams the audio to Google's servers and sends back text. That is how that browser works, not something this site chose, and there is no way for a web page to opt out of it. If you would rather nothing left the machine, use the recorder below.

Or record yourself and listen back

Nothing is uploaded. The recording is held in this tab and disappears when you close it. Comparing your own voice against the reciter, phrase by phrase, is the oldest method here and still the most reliable one on this page.

No text. Recite from memory.

Recite it first, out loud, with nothing in front of you. Then reveal, and grade yourself honestly — the schedule is only as good as the grading. Anything you grade Again comes back tomorrow.

What this device remembers

Repetition counts and review dates are stored in this browser only. Nothing is sent anywhere, there is no account, and clearing your browser data clears this too.

How to use it, in one paragraph

Take five ayat, not fifty. Sit on Listen with the repeat set high and the speed slowed until you can hear the ends of the words without reading them. Move to Fade and climb the rungs, saying every ayah aloud at each one. Use Recite to catch dropped words, not to grade yourself. Finish on Test, grade honestly, and come back tomorrow to whatever is due — that return visit is the part that actually does the work, and it is the part everyone skips.
