Surah Al-Ghashiyah — The Overwhelming

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ ﴿١﴾

Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 88:1

وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ ﴿٢﴾

Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 88:2

عَامِلَةٌۭ نَّاصِبَةٌۭ ﴿٣﴾

Labouring (hard), weary,- 88:3

تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةًۭ ﴿٤﴾

The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 88:4

تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍۢ ﴿٥﴾

The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 88:5

لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍۢ ﴿٦﴾

No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 88:6

لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍۢ ﴿٧﴾

Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 88:7

وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ نَّاعِمَةٌۭ ﴿٨﴾

(Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 88:8

لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌۭ ﴿٩﴾

Pleased with their striving,- 88:9

فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍۢ ﴿١٠﴾

In a Garden on high, 88:10

لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةًۭ ﴿١١﴾

Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 88:11

فِيهَا عَيْنٌۭ جَارِيَةٌۭ ﴿١٢﴾

Therein will be a bubbling spring: 88:12

فِيهَا سُرُرٌۭ مَّرْفُوعَةٌۭ ﴿١٣﴾

Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 88:13

وَأَكْوَابٌۭ مَّوْضُوعَةٌۭ ﴿١٤﴾

Goblets placed (ready), 88:14

وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌۭ ﴿١٥﴾

And cushions set in rows, 88:15

وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ ﴿١٦﴾

And rich carpets (all) spread out. 88:16

أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ ﴿١٧﴾

Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 88:17

وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ ﴿١٨﴾

And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 88:18

وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ ﴿١٩﴾

And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 88:19

وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ ﴿٢٠﴾

And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 88:20

فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌۭ ﴿٢١﴾

Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 88:21

لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ ﴿٢٢﴾

Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 88:22

إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ ﴿٢٣﴾

But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 88:23

فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ ﴿٢٤﴾

Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 88:24

إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ ﴿٢٥﴾

For to Us will be their return; 88:25

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم ﴿٢٦﴾

Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 88:26
