The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught al-Hasan ibn Ali a supplication to say in the qunut of witr: 'Allahumma-hdini fiman hadayt, wa afini fiman afayt, wa tawallani fiman tawallayt, wa barik li fima a'tayt, wa qini sharra ma qadayt...' asking Allah for guidance, well-being, protection, and blessing in what He has decreed. Scholars differ on the details: qunut in witr is established and recommended, and some hold it may be done occasionally rather than every night, while qunut in the Fajr prayer as a standing practice is a point of legitimate juristic disagreement. The one praying may also add other lawful supplications. It is recited standing after the ruku' (or before it, as both are reported).
