Circumcision is part of the fitrah (natural disposition) of mankind, as the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Five things are from the fitrah: circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, plucking the armpit hair, trimming the moustache, and clipping the nails." There is legitimate ikhtilāf on its ruling: the Shāfi'īs and Hanbalīs hold it obligatory for males, while Abū Hanīfa and Mālik regarded it as a strongly recommended sunnah. It is best carried out in early childhood, and there is no fixed sacred date for it.
