Is wiping the face with the hands after dua part of the Sunnah?

This is a point of legitimate difference among scholars. The narrations that mention wiping the face over the hands after supplication are weak (da'if), and verifying scholars such as al-Albani and Ibn Baz held that wiping the face is not established as Sunnah, so the safest practice is to lower the hands without wiping. A minority permitted it, viewing the combined weak reports as strengthening one another. What is firmly established is raising the hands and calling upon Allah, as in the hadith that He is shy to return them empty; the wiping itself has no authentic proof.
